Sack Pack is FAAB for 2021!

We're going to be switching from the traditional waiver wire system to FAAB for the upcoming season. Article explaining FAAB vs waiver wire: https://www.si.com/nfl/2019/08/20/fantasy-football-league-settings-free-agent-bidding

We've always used the rolling waiver wire. In this system, the strategy depends on players deciding when to use the waiver wire priority, often waiting for that big free agent if they get to No. 1 in the waiver order because making a claim sends them back to the bottom. This involves luck and doesn't always create a fair shot for everyone to add players. Everyone should get a chance to acquire every free agent. The best way to do this is to use Blind Bid Waivers, also known as FAAB.

FAAB stands for Free Agent Acquisition Budget. Each team gets a budget of imaginary dollars to use for the season. Each week, you bid on the free agents. By a specific deadline, the highest bidding team for each free agent wins that player. If there is a tie on bids, the team lower in the standings or with fewer points wins the bid. Players put in bids on players they want to add, and in addition, they will typically include a player they want to drop so they don't go over the roster limit. No one else sees the bids, so there is a lot of strategy involved every week. The FAAB system preferences strategic-based gameplay over luck.

You can bid $0 so you'll always have a chance for player acquisitions even if you spend all of your budget in week 1. The default FAAB budget for teams is $100. Here's a quick lil vid about FAAB if you'd like some more information:

We can try this for the 2021 season and then revisit the 2 systems (waiver wire vs FAAB) to determine which one we'd like to use for 2022.

FANTASY FOOTBALL STARTS TODAY

Week 1 of the 2020 season is here, and for us in the Sack Pack, it’s been an extra long road to return. This could be a crazier season than usual, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but hopefully all involved come through healthy and we’ll roll with whatever changes come along. Remember this moment. You’re currently undefeated this season. Be sure to set your lineups, coaches.

Week Three Report

Despite the fact that our Yahoo! chat is comprised primarily of Mike fretting about how terrible his winning team is, The Fighting Fistula are, as of this week, the only undefeated team in the league! I don’t know if our Yahoo! chat app can handle the flood of bellyaching we’ll receive now. It’s gotta feel good for Backus to the Future to get that sweet sweet win over Amazons, the coach who picked his team in the draft because he totally bailed on us even though we had set plans for like a really long time... but that’s cool. Grats also go out to GO BIRDS, The Astrocats, Planet express, Regis Island, and The Scumbags. Shady Bradys were totally robbed taking a loss with a score like that.

Week One Wins (and Losses)

Last night finished up week 1 and we have our fist set of wins and losses for the season. A big GRATS goes out to Regis Island, RG3POs, Shady Bradys, Good Picks, GO BIRDS, The Fighting Fistula, and Lollipop Guild. Don’t get cocky though. Many wins were close calls or the direct result of luck. Things will change in the following weeks. Regis Island also gets a big THANK YOU for preventing The Scumbags from restarting their undefeated run again this season (and not collusion needed!).
